LSLug was born in 2005 by 22 students from the Computer Science Dept. of "Sapienza, Università di Roma", formerly known as Università “La Sapienza” di Roma.
At that time University lacked for a proper landmark for Free Software users, including a proper support to education and teaching.
Courses for subjects such as Programming, Operating Systems and various labs had as a prerequisite the knowledge of Unix-like systems, but there was no course on that.
All the associates believe in the Open Source Development model, and they're willing to spread Free Software and Open Source culture among new developers and future businessman in the italian IT sector.
Provide support to linux users at a basic and advanced level, mainly inside “La Sapienza” university, not limited to students of the Computer Science Dept. but to every student;
Organize basic and advanced level courses for those who don't know anything about GNU/linux and Free/Open Source Software to access these technologies;
Make students aware of the existence of Free and Open Source Software tools and development strategies.
Actively contribute in spreading Free and Open Source software by aiding those with brand new ideas and offering our collaborative skills to existing projects;
Organize talks, events and seminars to spread these ideals;
Actively cooperatewith other organizations and associations with the same or close purposes, inside and outside university.
